Just Build It and They Will Come! Really?

Build a Better Blog, Part I

Having a blog site for your business is a great way to increase your influence with your buyers. The blog will inform them of the importance of your product or service, the benefit of your product or service and, if done correctly, some of the “golden nuggets” about your product or service. However, there are a few challenges that come along with having a blog site.

First, you have to have pertinent information that actually has substance behind it. There is nothing more aggravating to a potential customer reading your blog, only to have it say what has already been said.

Second, the information should have a call to action, some form of directive or direction you want the customer to take. This can be to reach out to you directly via phone, email, texts, etc. or it can be for them to fill in a survey, enter a contest, subscribe to a newsletter / email blast or just come back and read the next episode. There is virtually unlimited avenues to pursue with a call to action. It is whatever you want it to be, but it needs to be there.

Third, your blog should have a common thread through it, such as information specific to the product, or a “day in the life” of the seller or manufacturer, a personal viewpoint, or a comedic style. Having a standard format for what you write, gives the reading audience an expectation, something they look forward to each edition. However, that is not to say you cannot mix it up occasionally, especially if there is a unique event coming up or a captivating story to tell. Just don’t become a random, haphazard site or there will be no consistent following.

Fourth, and I will end with this one, although there are many other ways to improve your blog,(discussed in future blogs) the take-away is, you need to be consistent in writing or posting a blog. It cannot be stressed enough and yet it is probably the biggest mistake people make in blogging, myself included.

But we will talk more about that next time! See you soon!

What’s your opinion?
